12 years

or

18 Months

Do you remember the good old days when we had "12 years to save the planet"? Now it seems, there's a growing consensus that the next 18 months will be critical in dealing with the global heating crisis, among other environmental challenges.

The world’s leading climate scientists have warned there is only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.

We, humans, admit it or not is the main reason why everything of these are happening. Because of taking everything for granted, we are now experiencing a lot of changes in the environment. Earth's temperature has gone up about one degree Fahrenheit in the last 100 years. This may not seem like much. But small changes in Earth's temperature can have big effects. Earth's temperature has gone up about one degree Fahrenheit in the last 100 years. This may not seem like much. But small changes in Earth's temperature can have big effects.

The most threatening effect that we may have is the melting of ice caps in the Arctic ocean. The changes that are happening doesn’t only affect the Arctic. Our planet is an interconnected system.  , and the vanishing ice is already having ripple effects down south. Among them: faster global warming, rising sea levels, and possibly more extreme natural disasters, and the polar bears will suffer. Scientists are still trying to figure many things out, but pretty much everyone agrees that a melting Arctic isn’t a good thing.

Among these changes that are experiencing right now, how can every one of us help to extend the life of our home. Scientists think we can do things to stop the climate from changing as much. You can help by using less energy and water. Turn off lights and TVs when you leave a room. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth. You also can help by planting trees. Another way to help is by learning about Earth. The more you know about Earth, the more you can help solve climate problems.
